Perception 2019
Project Black Gold is a reflective work where our need to understand, identify, and connect with inner and exterior worlds is the driving force. The works abstractly express contradictions and dilemmas in our everyday life. How we always find ourselves in a situation that is opposed to one another or has to make a difficult choice between especially equally undesirable ones. Reflecting on displaced connections with our body and self, the landscape, and my work, I examine the discursive relationship between knowledge and being. Our impulses, bias, and greed inform us, and the work constantly lives and extracts from contradiction. Quintessentially, the modern conflict is spiritual, and every one of its main aspects is moral, political, and scientific.
“We are only falsehood, duplicity, contradiction; we both conceal and disguise ourselves from ourselves.” - Blaise Pascal
